Free Concert

I just finished designing a flier for my Dad's band, the Sentimental Sisters, and figured why not post it here. If you're going to be in the LA area late December, you should check this concert out. How often do you get to hear fantastic, live 40s music? I'm a little peeved that I'll be flying back to Utah two days before the concert. Stupid job. I miss all my Dad's gigs living so freaking far away. I need a helicopter. A gigantic black helicopter. That would be so sweet.

I feel your pain. December is the big deadline for my books, which is one reason I have to cut my xmas vacation short. But if you get out of working late, I'm sure you'll like the concert. It's good stuff.

wow...I didn't know your dad was a musician, let alone a musician who seems to have had reasonable success. Does he make his living that way? Did he always do that? Did you grow up with your dad arranging music professionally? Do tell.

Oh, and just saw J-Lo on this french Star Academy show where she flew into the Chateau in a helicopter. Sigh cool...I just want to make enough money to be rich enough to get from place to place in a helicopter. Imagine, going to the supermarket in a helicopter, going to the movies in a helicopter, going to the toilet in a helicopter...all with a giant 200 pound bodyguard constantly holding the paper.

Nardac: My dad's an attorney, but when he was in law school he was in ragtime band and put out a few records. He's been doing music on the side ever since.

Yes, we did grow up with him arranging music. My mother and four siblings all play instruments so that was a big thing in my family -- playing together and whatnot. Of course my violin skills are crappy compared to my mother's despite 15 years of lessons (I don't practice anymore!) and I can't touch my father with a 50 foot pole when it comes to piano playing. Isn't it sad when you let your talents go to waste? I say this to myself all the time yet don't do anything about it. But, hey, I still sing, I'm learning the guitar and dabble with the African drums. That's something, at least :)

But speaking of helicoptors, I too would love to be rich enough to own one. I think that would be cooler than a personal jet. Plus, with helicoptors, you can fly low and chase people, as they run in terror through the streets. That'd be the life.

or blow them off the top of very tall buildings.

btw, nobody in my family, but me, is musically inclined, so it's something I definitely envy, having company. I used to have an all-girls electro keyboard band, 3 girls playing Casio 100s, and a drummer. It was sweet. Since moving to France 2.5 years ago I've stopped. sad.

Cool! We have so much in common! Okay not really. My dad is an attorney but he has no musical talent whatsoever. But my mom plays piano and guitar and my sister plays guitar and drums and my baby plays the Fisher Price Monkey Tambourine so we're KINDA in the same boat.

Okay fine. YOUR boat is an ocean liner and mine is a raft. BUT HE PLAYS THE MONKEY TAMBOURINE! And his hair looks a little like Keith Partridge...

N: All girl band playing Casio-100s...that's groovy. Did you have a cool Luscious Jackson vibe?

C: The monkey tambourine! Now that sounds like a promising instrument. Maybe I can take lessons. I could see it being used as the hook in some techno song.
